Local Authors Bring Tales and Tomes to Barnes and Noble

Smithfield writers made a strong showing at recent book signing event.

A number of local authors gathered at Barnes and Noble for a book signing evening April 24 hail from Smithfield — running the gamut from general fiction to romance and astronomy.

Headlining the event was Smithfield's Kimberly Arcand, co-author of "Your Ticket to the Universe", a photo-illustrated, entertaining tour of the most interesting stops known in the cosmos — from our Solar System to the Milky Way galaxy and beyond to exotic lands, available on Amazon for $24.95.

Kate Laprise, assistant manager at the store, said Arcand's book sold out of all the store's 11 copies, as well as the few she brought with her for the event.

But Arcand was only one of several authors on hand to sign copies of their works and talk about them.

Deborah and Deanna Lisi of Smithfield were present. "We grew up here," Deborah said.

The two were promoting their fantasy novels, Treasures of Wickedness, which the mother-daughter team co-authored, and the sequel, Treasures of Heaven, by Deborah. You can read more about the authors' work on her facebook page.

Elyse Major, also of Smithfield, was there as well, talking up her book, Tinkered Treasures, a compendium of craft ideas. She also runs a blog under the same title.

Steven Porter, an author from nearby Harmony, was at the store promoting his new book, Manisses, an historical adventure novel of pirates and witches told from the perspective of a family of spiritual channelers.
