Smithfield Town Council President Alberto J. LaGreca Jr. has recently stepped down from Bryant University's Board of Trustees, reports The Observer. 

LaGreca, a Republican and previous council president, stepped down to avoid any conflicts of interest, according to the article. He was serving a three-year term on the board. 

LaGreca is also the owner of Rome Packing Co., an East Providence distribution company. 

However, according to The Observer, LaGreca's resignation comes at a time when new tax legislation is being introduced, including a bill that could give the town authority to tax the university. To read more on this story, click here.
