What's Happening This Weekend in Smithfield?

Check out the busy slate of events in and around Smithfield — including the annual Celebrate Smithfield Festival.

Memorial Day may have marked the start of summer on the calendar — but this weekend will really feel like it.

With the forecast calling for sun through the weekend with highs in the 90s before rain moves in on Sunday night, there's no excuse to get out and enjoy some of the events happening around Smithfield.

Friday, May 31:

  • 11 am: Georgiaville Pond Stickers for Sale at Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink. Cars, boats, and trailers: $10 for residents/$20 non-residents. Free to senior citizens, disabled, and veterans. Good until Nov. 1, 2014. Valid registration required. Closes at 5 pm. 
  • 12 pm: Public Skating at Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink. $3 admission/$5 skate rentals. Read about the ongoing improvements to the ice rink. Also June 2 at 12 pm.
  • 8 pm: Ghost Tour starting at Prospect Terrace in Providence. Take a walking tour of the darkened streets of the historic East Side and see what happens. $18. Also June 2 at 8 pm
  • All day: Summer Camp Registration at Mother of Hope Camp, located on Echo Lake in Chepachet. $160 per camper, $150 each sibling. For a complete list of area summer camps, click here. Also June 1 and 2.

Saturday, June 1:

  • 9:30 am: Ribbon cutting at the new Johnston Recreation Department office at Memorial Park. Just shy of eight months after a fire wrecked the original building, the new facility is set to open.
  • 9:30 am: Community Yard Sale at The Children's Workshop. Space available for $15; BYOT (bring your own table).
  • 11 am: Open House at the Clemence-Irons House, 38 George Waterman Road. One of four Historic New England Homes hosting events today. Free.
  • 12 pm: 5th Annual Celebrate Smithfield Festival at the Crossing at Smithfield. Hosted by the Smithfield Education Foundation to raise funds for local teachers. Free.

Sunday, June 2:

  • 9 am: 2013 MS Rumble Down The Rhode at Town Hall Lanes. It's a 55-mi. motorcycle ride to benefit the RI Chapter of the National MS Society. Free food and bowling for riders. $25 for one rider/$35 for two.
