Greenville Public Library's "Eat. Drink. Read." Club Takes Tome Talk Online

Books, wine and recipes mix in new book club.

Wine, books and recipes go together, if you've got the right wine books and recipes — which is where Chelsea Dodd's Eat. Drink. Read. club comes in.

The reference librarian at the Greenville Public Librarywill pair books with wine and recipes, and moderate a discussion of the combinations on the club's page on Good Reads. "This book club will take place completely online through Goodreads, and we will begin the first book reading and discussion this March. Membership is not limited to Greenville patrons and everyone is welcome to participate," Dodd said.

"Online book clubs are becoming a little more popular," said Dodd, who is working to reach out to readers online and through social media (She'll also walk you through checking out audio books through the library - just ask).

"We hope to make it a fun and light group since our jobs and families deserve the most brainwork," Dodd said.

This month's combination of tomes, vino and cuisine includes the novel Pomegranite Soup, a "foodie-lit" piece about three Iranian sisters transplanted to Ireland in the 1980s, Dodd said. She also pointed readers to the Publisher's Weekly review of the work, which notes afficianadoes of cooking-overcomes-cultural-differences stories will enjoy it, as well as the 13 recipes, one for pomegranate soup.

Dodd said she chose pomegranate wine to go with the recipes and reading for March.

The club is in need of some new members, Dodd said, and the online discussions should be less demanding on people's time than a physical meetings.
