More Than 69,000 Without Power in RI; Smithfield Spared... So Far

National Grid reported outages across Rhode Island following the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.

 

With the strongest winds and rain from Hurricane Sandy expected later today, Smithfield has been faring relatively well in the electricity department.

As of 4:45 pm, more than 69,000 Rhode Island customers are without power, with 62 reported for Smithfield.

Weather official are projecting the heaviest winds to hit Rhode Island Monday afternoon and into the night with gusts up to 75 mph.
