PHOTOS: Smithfield Preparing For Winter Storm

Last minute errands squared away as town gets set for a weekend inside.

 

A few hours before Gov. Lincoln Chafee declared a state of emergency for RI, Smithfield residents were clearing up some last minute errands and getting ready to spend a the next few days inside.

The roads were wet at 11 a.m., and light snow had just begun to fall, with modest traffic along Putnam Pike, but the snow started to get heavier by 11:40 a.m.

In the Apple Valley Mall parking lot, people were running or briskly walking from their cars into CVS finishing up errands before the storm started to intensify.
