GALLERY: Smithfield Scouts Collect Bags Saturday During Scouting For Food

Annual collection for hunger relief is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Don't let Hurricane Sandy and your Halloween haul distract you from putting together some food donations for those bags local Boy Scouts dropped off over the weekend.

This Saturday, members of Troop1 Georgiaville, Crew 200, Troop 1 Greenville and Pack 1 will be collecting the bags they dropped off for the 25th Annual Scouting for Food Drive last week.

The drive is a long-standing tradition for the Narragansett Council Boy Scouts of America and the largest food drive in New England. For 25 years, the Boy Scouts’ Scouting for Food campaign has inspired the community to give to those in need. More than 200 Boy Scout Packs and Troops participate in the annual drive, reinforcing the motto for Scouts to do a “Good Turn” daily.  The Scouting for Food Drive is the most significant annual community service event for the Narragansett Council Boy Scouts of America.

Local Scouts will return to collect the donated foods on Nov. 3, beginning at 9 a.m.
