Earl H. Porter, Sr.: Retired Postman, WWII Army Vet

Earl H. Porter, Sr., 87, of Smithfield died peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 after a short illness, according to Anderson-Winfield funeral home

He was the husband of the late Annette M. (Aubin) Porter.

Earl was born in Johnston and a son of the late George and Edna (White) Porter.He was an Army veteran of WWII. Earl had worked for the US Postal Service until retiring in 1987. He had lived in Smithfield 51 years.

Earl loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid Red Sox fan and had enjoyed watching his son Earl play in the Newport Sunset Baseball League and continued to be a fan even after Earl retired from the game. His favorite number was “617” and his alias was "Little Foot". He also looked forward to greeting the school bus that passed his house daily.

He is survived by his children Karen Hayden and her husband Robert, Nancy Hart, William Porter, Sandra Lachapelle, Paula Porter, Darlene Borino and her husband Rick, and Earl Porter Jr with whom he lived. Also 6 grandchildren: Christopher, Jessyca, Justin , William, Stephanie and Hayley, 8 great-grandchildren and his brother Howard Porter and his wife Carol. He was the brother of the late George, Norman and Arthur Porter, Marian Duffy, Hazel Egan and Dorothy Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 9am in St. Michael’s Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Vistation Tuesday 4-7pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville.
