Fred Gaunt, 89: Member, VFW Post #2929 of Smithfield

Mr. Gaunt was also a Navy veteran of World War II.

Fred Gaunt, 89, of Johnston, died August 12, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Nellie F. (Northup) Gaunt for 66 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Fred and Ann (Hesketh) Gaunt.

Mr. Gaunt was employed by the former William C. Northup Co. for many years before retiring. A Navy veteran of both WWII and the Korean Conflict, he was a member of VFW Post #2929, and the Graniteville War Veterans Foundation.

Besides his wife, he leaves three children, Louise Reeves of Glocester, Douglas Gaunt and his wife Pamela of Johnston, and Donald Gaunt and his wife Cathy of Smithfield, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was father of the late John Gaunt and brother of the late Shirley King.

His funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial to follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Calling hours are Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m..
