Smithfield EMA Issues Flood Watch Alert

A 'Nor'easter-like storm' is expected to bring 1 to 3 in. of rain later Thursday.

The Smithfield Emergency Management Agency this morning released a Flood Watch alert ahead of an expected 1 to 3 in. of rainfall later Thursday into Friday.

Todd Manni, EMA Director, wrote in an email that the rain "will cause urban and poor drainage flooding as well as small stream/river flooding."

Wind gusts of 30 mph and higher are also expected as part of the "Nor'easter-like storm" that was moving northeast from the New York area at about 9 am.

The flood watch, issued by the National Weather Service, is in effect until Saturday morning.
