Smithfield Exit to I-295 Closed Today

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation announced the closure of Exit 8 to I-295 and two travel lanes for maintenance work.

 

The Rte. 7 onramp to Interstate 295 [near Bryant University] and two travel lanes on the highway are scheduled to be closed today, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation announced.

According to a statement released Monday afternoon, work crews from RIDOT will be closing the left two lanes of I-295 South beginning at 9 am this morning for scheduled maintenance.

Alternate routes are Washington Highway [Rte. 116] north to Rte. 146 north to I-295 south, or Washington Highway south to Rte. 44 east to I-295 south near Smithfield Commons.

For traffic heading north on I-295, the left-lane shift between Exit 9 [Rte. 146] and Exit 10 [Diamond Hill Road] will be closed, with northbound traffic using the right two lanes and soutbound traffic using the two left lanes.
