Smithfield Under Flash Flood Watch

Update: Tonight's music night performance, Sarah Potenza's country, blues and rock, is still a go, 6 to 8 p.m., weather permitting. The performer will set up at The Crossings at Smithfield, and play unless the weather turns foul.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Smithfield and much of the surrounding area until 8 p.m. tonight.

Heavy rain moving through the region today may result in urban and poor drainage flooding as well as the threat of flash flooding in the area. The National Weather Service warns of the danger for flash flooding of roads and streams during this time.

The NWS calls for areas of fog before noon, a high near 80, and showers, with thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m. with the possibility of heavy rain.

Todd Manni at the Smithfield EMA warns drivers to be wary of pooled water in roads, which can appear deceptively shallow. Manni advised turning around if your path is blocked by water.
