T-Storm Warning Issued for Smithfield, Hot Weather to Follow

The National Weather Service is warning of the potential for strong thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon.

Strong thunderstorms are expected for Smithfield this afternoon, bringing the chance of damaging winds and hail, according to Smithfield EMA Director Todd Manni.

Manni issued a reminder of today's National Weather Service forecast, which is calling for thunderstorms to arrive around 5 pm, with showers expected to continue through the night into last Thursday morning.

Once the rain moves out, the forecast is for sunny skies with high humidity and temperatures near 90 degrees by Thursday afternoon. The warmer weather is expected to linger until Sunday night, when a 50-percent chance of rain may also bring thunderstorms.

The chance of rain is forecast to continue through Monday night, with daytime highs in the mid-70s.
