The criteria used to choose the students of the month throughout the year is made up of 6 key elements.  The first is that students must demonstrate a real effort and desire to learn. Sue Tessier, the director of guidance, said, “This does not mean that the student has to achieve honor roll status. As long as we see the student is trying his or her best and really wants to learn, they will be nominated and considered.” Second is that students must show involvement in school life and activities. Third is students must demonstrate respect for all school policies and personnel. The fourth criterion is that students must have a genuine concern for the school community. The fifth element is that students must be active and involved in classroom activities.  The sixth and final piece to this process is that students must display friendliness and support towards their peers. Students are nominated based on these principles and then the votes are made.
