Smithfield Weekend: Apple Picking, Earlier Outdoor Movies

Fall is in the air this weekend — here's what's happening around Smithfield.

What are you doing this weekend in Smithfield?

The forecast for Smithfield calls for sunny skies and temps in the 70s, so get out and enjoy some of this weekend's happenings.

If the cooler weather has you thinking fall, make a trek out to apple orchards in Smithfield, including Jaswell's, which is opening apple picking on Saturday.

The Rustic Tri-Vue Drive-In is on fall hours, too, showing on Friday and Saturday nights through Sept. 28.

Here's the line-up, set to start about 8 p.m. each night:

  • Kick-Ass 2 [R] with Riddick [R]
  • Getaway [PG-13] with We're the Millers [R]
  • Planes [PG] with Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters [PG]
$25 per car load.

And before they close for the season, be sure to pick up the new Rustic Drive-In tee-shirt available at the concession stand. $18, made by Hemlock Ink Custom Screenprinting.

Kicking off Friday in Cranston is the 28th Annual Cranston Greek Festival, hosted by the Church of the Annunciation, 175 Oaklawn Ave. Cranston Patch Editor Mark Schieldrop posted a comprehensive preview; click the link above.

Up in Woonsocket, Chan's Fine Oriental Dining hosts a couple of tough-sounding outfits: Killer Kane and the Jewel City Blues Band on Saturday night, and the Chili Brothers with Amadee Castinell.

Online tickets are $12 for each show. 8 p.m. showtimes.
