RI Trooper Roupen Bastajian asks for privacy, respect for victims.

Bastajian quickly realized what had happened and rushed to the aid of those injured by the blasts, according to a release from the RI State Police. When CBS news interviewed him shortly after, he described helping first responders to tie tourniquets on scores of injured people missing limbs. "He also assisted other responders and helped provide treatment and makeshift triage for the victims. Bastajian, a RI State Trooper and U.S. Marine veteran, not so much. "I kind of just suck it up and go out and get it done," said the 35-year-old Greenville resident. His last training run was a 12-miler a few weeks ago. Bastajian, a Smithfield resident since 1995, has been a runner pretty much from the time he joined the Marines at 18. He first started running in the Boston Marathon 10 years ago. His best time was his first year — 3:40:00. The last time he ran the Boston Marathon was…

The Rams’ first half efficiency gets wore down by a more talented UMass squad, as URI loses 75-66 in its season finale.
KINGSTON – For seemingly the 100th time this year, the University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team saw a close game slip away in the second half, as the Rams couldn’t keep pace with a more talented opponent. For Senior Day on Saturday afternoon, the cast of characters changed, as the University of Massachusetts Minutemen played the role of past squads like La Salle, St. Bonaventure and VCU. However, the ending was the same, as the Rams lost 75-66. As usual, the Rams were within striking distance at the half, trailing by just a single point with about four seconds left. In a play that epitomized URI’s season, UMass point guard Chaz Williams got the ball in the backcourt, shook off light contact from 60 feet away, and then launched a …
