Smithfield Fourth of July Celebration Set for Sunday

Smithfield's third Fourth of July celebration and fireworks display hosted at Bryant University is set to kick off Sunday at 7 p.m.

"Bryant does a wonderful job," of hosting the event, said Recreation Director TJ Tullie. Smithfield residents have been enjoying the venue's easy access at 1150 Douglas Pike, ample parking and concessions provided by Bryant since university officials offered to host the celebration three years ago. Tullie said their aim was to be more involved in the community.

This year's fireworks will be set off by local Richard Vallante of Pyrotechnico, a national pyrotechnic company with its nearest office in Jaffrey, NH. The main entertainment will be provided by the Northeast Navy Band from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., when the fireworks will begin.

Tullie said Bryant President Ronald K. Machtley's hard work secured the band for the event. "It's a better show than it was three years ago," Tullie said.

Do not bring personal fireworks, pets, or alcoholic beverages to this event. Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged.
